DOM Level 2 Becomes W3C Recommendation
13:19, 14 Nov 2000 UTC | Leigh Dodds

In a message to the www-dom mailing list, Janet Daley, announced that five of the six DOM Level 2 modules had been promoted to Recommendation status.

However comments on the HTML module, submitted following the close of the Last Call period, expressed "concerns about backwards compatibility". The comments lead to the decision to provide an additional Last Call period for the HTML module specification, to:

...allow the W3C Working Groups to review it and for the Working Group to determine that compatibility issues are well addressed with the new version and that existing applications gain real benefits from the change, with the goal of resuming the W3C Recommendation track.

The detailed comments concerning backwards compatibility issues have not been published.
