XSLT 1.1 specification requirements
16:36, 28 Aug 2000 UTC | Eric van der Vlist

Vincent Quint has announced a document describing the requirements for a XSLT 1.1 specification. Published by Steve Muench as a W3C Working Draft, the document explains that "the primary goal of the XSLT 1.1 specification is to improve stylesheet portability".

This requirements draft follows calls for unification of commonly used XSLT extensions and the promise by Steve Muench to address as many concerns as possible within a recharted XSLT Working Group.

The XSLT extensions that have been selected are the multiple output documents support and an implicit result tree fragment to node set conversion.

The requirement document also described support for XML Base and more requirements for the implementation of further portable extension functions:

The XSLT 1.1 specification will define the additional specifics necessary to enable the creation and use of extension functions across processors.
