Costello's "step-by-step tutorial on creating schemas" includes "an 88 page tutorial, 13 complete, verified examples, and 11 labs with answers (all lab answers are complete and verified)."

The tutorial covers many aspects of the datatypes and structures specifications, and explains the use of schemaLocation. Examples include a book catalog, binary string, and simple signature. An HTML table identifying which facets are supported by which datatypes is also included.

The tutorial is supplied as a PowerPoint presentation supplemented by XML examples and lab files and distributed open-source under the GPL.
