The SVG Open / Carto.net developers' conference will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, in July 2002.

According to the organisers, the aim of the conference is to be:

... a platform for SVG developers to share ideas, examples and implementations. The SVG community has well-established user groups with active online discussion-forums. Articles and tutorial-sites are evolving quickly. The conference should give the possibility to meet personally "in real world", thus opening other communication-channels and contacts, beside electronic-media.

The call for papers requests extended abstracts by January 15, 2002. Suitable topics include:

  • Design for the user: filters, animation, accessibility, SVG and art, GUIs, webmapping/GIS, ergonomic map interfaces, location-based services

  • Data-driven delivery: SVG-aware and spatial databases, server-side generation, dealing with large data sets.

  • Data maintenance: using XML/XSLT for SVG, workflow, optimizing SVG for filesize and render-time, metadata and extensibility, GML & SVG.

  • SVG players and authoring tools: promoting SVG to web developers, SVG and open source, commercial projects, DTP vs animation oriented environments, SVG and Flash.
