New CSS drafts: media queries and text module
09:08, 21 May 2001 UTC | Edd Dumbill

Bert Bos announced the publication of two new CSS3 Working Drafts, Media queries and CSS3 module: text.

The "Media queries" draft updates that published in April, and contains mainly corrections to the text. The only new feature is color-index. The purpose of the "Media queries" draft is to create a language in which a CSS style sheet can describe which media a style applies to.

The "CSS3 module: text" draft, specifying a set of CSS text formatting properties, replaces 1999's "International layout" draft, bringing the proposals from the older draft into being as a CSS3 module. Bos writes:

This is a long and complicated draft, because it refers to typographic traditions of many different languages. But in principle, it should all still make sense, even if you don't know Japanese or Arabic. So shout it if it does not.
