New HTML Working Group Roadmap
17:41, 25 Jul 2000 UTC | Simon St.Laurent

Reflecting recent delays on various XHTML related projects, the W3C's HTML Working Group has released an updated Roadmap note detailing the progress they hope to make toward XHTML 1.1, 2.0, and supporting specifications.

The schedule is a notable step back from the original Roadmap's ambitions. For example:

Spec Old Proposed Rec New Candidate / Proposed Rec Old Rec New Rec
Modularization of XHTML 1.1 Feb 2000 July 2000 April 2000 Sept 2000
XHTML 1.1 Feb 2000 July 2000 June 2000 Sept 2000
XHTML Basic April 2000 July 2000 June 2000 Sept 2000
Events Module May 2000 TBD July 2000 unspecified
XHTML 2.0 Dec 2000 TBD Feb 2001 unspecified

The new roadmap also includes issues like settling on a MIME type for XHTML and a Charter as deliverables, though these don't receive the in-depth explanations other tasks get. The first draft defining XHTML using XML Schemas has also moved from April 2000 to August 2000.
