IBM donates SOAP implementation to Apache
13:17, 1 Jun 2000 UTC | Edd Dumbill

IBM has donated their SOAP code to the Apache XML Project, hoping to speed adoption of the new XML protocol.

Over recent weeks, IBM has been by far the most aggressive developer of public SOAP technology, adding an experimental technology for describing network services provided by SOAP servers.

In contrast, developers are still awaiting the release of Microsoft's SOAP toolkit, touted for release 30 May, but as yet unavailable.

It is expected that Sun Microsystems may donate programmer time to the IBM SOAP toolkit now it has become part of the Apache XML Project.
