New XHTML Proposed Recommendation
The W3C has issued a revised Proposed
Recommendation for XHTML 1.0, referred back to the HTML
working group earlier this year.
The new PR is reviewed
favorably on XML-DEV by David Megginson, who points out
the major highlights:
- A single XHTML Namespace,
http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml
- Examples of using elements from other Namespaces inside
an XHTML
document
- All element and attribute names in lower case
- The DOCTYPE declaration is still required for strict
XHTML
conformance, with three different DTDs
In the rest of his message, Megginson pays credit to Tim
Berners-Lee and the membership of XML-DEV for their part in
the debate around XHTML.
Re: New XHTML Proposed Recommendation (Guy Macon - 08:48, 20 May 2003) I think that the years since this was written have shown that XHTML 1.0 was very well-designed indeed.
