SVG 1.1, SVG Mobile Profiles reach Candidate Recommendation
15:40, 3 May 2002 UTC | Simon St.Laurent

The W3C has released Candidate Recommendations of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) 1.1 Specification and Mobile SVG Profiles: SVG Tiny and SVG Basic along with Working Drafts of An XHTML + MathML + SVG Profile and SVG 1.1/1.2/2.0 Requirements.

The largest change between the Candidate Recommendation of SVG 1.1 and its predecessor is that the new draft:

"Incorporated the modularized SVG DTD into Appendix A. Removed mention of XML Schema. The SVG Working Group will provide a modularized XML Schema for SVG once the production techniques for such a schema are better understood."

The Mobile Profiles draft includes new appendices covering SVG Tiny Document Type Definition, SVG Basic Document Type Definition, Conformance Criteria, SVG Tiny Feature Strings, and SVG Basic Feature Strings.

The Candidate Recommendation phase for both of these specifications ends 23 June 2002.

The XHTML+MathML+SVG profile is a collaborative effort across working groups. In announcing it, Chris Lilley described it as:

"the first Working Draft of a profile of SVG, XHTML and MathML, a collaborative work by the SVG, HTML and Math Working Groups. There are two early implementations of this inline, multi-namespace document type, Mozilla and Amaya."

A Press release and testimonials for SVG 1.1 are also available.
