IBM releases formatting objects composer tool
14:49, 6 Nov 2001 UTC | Edd Dumbill

IBM alphaWorks have created XSL Formatting Objects Composer (XFC), a typesetting and display engine with support for a large portion of the W3C XSL Formatting Objects Recommendation.

The Java-based XFC can produce either an onscreen rendering, using Java2D, or output PDF files for printing. Work is underway to create additional backends.

As with all alphaWorks technologies, XFC is available for free, but its use is restricted to evaluation purposes.
