Useful simpleTypes for W3C XML Schemas
16:14, 22 Jul 2001 UTC | Leigh Dodds

Roger Costello has produced two useful simple type definitions for XML Schema authors. These define all known currencies, and ISBN identifiers.

Costello has provided the simpleType definition, a sample schema referencing this definition, and an example document for both types.

In the notes for the ISBN type, which was co-authored with Roger Sperberg, Costello comments that XML Schema is unable to validate the ISBN check digit. An additional XSLT transform is provided to perform the required modulo-11 check. A Schematron version might be similarly derived.

As the ability to define reusable type definitions is core to XML Schemas, the potential exists for collecting an openly available type library.
