Dividing documents with RELAX, new Relaxer
14:25, 12 Mar 2001 UTC | Simon St.Laurent

Murata Makoto released a prototypical implementation of a "divide-and-validate" approach to RELAX processing of documents with multiple namespaces, while Asami Tomoharu released a new version of Relaxer.

The processing approach used by RELAX divides a document up into single-namespace fragments, and then applies RELAX modules to those fragments. This kind of processing is extremely flexible:

"Each island can be validated by the RELAX Core processor. Furthermore, processors for different schema languages (even DTDs!) can be applied to these island."

An accompanying reference model is available in Japanese, as is the RELAX Namespaces specification.

Relaxer is a "Java class generator that addresses a XML document compliant with the XML model defined by RELAX." The new Relaxer processor, version 0.13, now supports Relaxer-specific metadata, metadata for mapping to other data models, and the latest RELAX Namespace, and some JDBC processing.
